Microchipping

Microchipping your pet is a simple and effective way to ensure their safe return if they get lost.

If your pet ever gets lost a microchip could be a sure way of them being returned to you once they are found. Your furry friends are very curious about their environment and so we recommend microchipping. In comparison to using ID tags, which can get lost or disconnected, microchipping has more advantages. Our hospital offers microchipping that can give you peace of mind that you will reconnect with a lost pet. Schedule your pet’s microchipping appointment at 204-452-0077.

How do microchips work in pets?

Contrary to popular belief a microchip does not work like a GPS. Microchips are small computer chips implanted beneath your pet’s skin on the neck. The chip has the pet owner’s information and pet details on it. A veterinarian or an organization shelter can scan this chip. Once scanned with a reader it will identify a number that can locate the owner on file.

Why should I microchip my pet?

Microchipping your pet is a good idea as it does not have any negative effects on your pet. In addition to this, once scanned, the microchip contains only the information you supplied when you registered your pet. Another advantage of microchips is that they never get worn out or expire. Once the chip is implanted, it does not need to be changed.

Is microchipping painful for my pet?

Implanting microchips causes very little pain in pets. The pain can be compared to that of getting any regular vaccine. The chip is very small and can be inserted without anesthesia.
